MOOSE HUNTS
The McGregor River Watershed encompasses many low, swampy willow flats, creeks, cut blocks and burnt off areas, prime country for the “big ones”. Our trophy Moose hunt is a 10 day hunt 1 on 1. We offer a variety of ways of hunting these including hiking, horsebacking, riverboat when the water levels permit and sit sites and road hunting for those less able to undertake the more difficult hunts. Over the last four years we have catered to a group of meat hunters, success rate being 80% over the first 3 years and 100% last year. Although there has been no interest in taking ‘big ones’ by these hunters, the area has produced Moose between 40 and 50 inches with the largest one taken in our area being 56 inches.
Last year hunters harvested a 48 inch and a 54 inch. We also offer a special group rate for those who want to do a shared meat hunt. Ask us for a package specific to your group.

BLACK BEAR
With many new logging blocks creating open country and fresh, new growth, Black Bears abound. As our area is located in the high country these bear can be hunted later in the season and still produce an outstanding trophy. Spring hunts are best conducted from mid-May to mid-June as access can sometimes be difficult before that time. In the fall the hillsides and mountainsides are rich in blueberries - the bears’ primary food source - therefore most of our fall hunts are conducted in these areas. Our hunts are spot and stalk, no baiting. Hunting with hounds is also available to those who prefer that type of hunt.

GRIZZLY BEAR
We hunt Grizzly Bear both spring and fall, spring hunts being conducted from our base camp and fall hunts being conducted primarily from a spike camp. The spike camp is located in the heart of blueberry country, the preferred nourishment of the grizzly. Our hunt offers 14 full days of hunting and can be combined with most other species for an additional fee. For those that enjoy a wealth of fantastic scenery along with the hunt of their dreams, this is the hunt for you. Book now as quotas are limited.

MOUNTAIN GOAT
Our Mountain Goat hunts are conducted in rough country. For this hunt, good physical condition and a strong mindset are mandatory. In the past we have run 100% on these hunts. We only take a few hunts a year to ensure that we retain this high success rate. On your part, you definitely have to work for it as Mountain Goats live on high mountains that encompass wild canyons and rock walls as well as gentle plateaus and sagebrush hills. There is a good population of goats in this area as poor access has prevented local hunters from hunting here. This may not last, as roads extended by the logging company have made it more accessible. These 10 day hunts can be conducted any time from August 1st to October 10th, but we prefer to have them between August 20th and September 10th as this is when our weather seems to be the best. Until recently this hunt required a 5 hour back pack trip into a base camp followed by a backpack trip up the valley to a spike camp for the early hunts. However, developments in the area have made it possible to hike into the base cabin in 2 hours or less. Late hunts can be conducted from the base camp. It is a good idea to book late hunts in combination with Moose as sometimes the goat mountains are fogged in and we cannot go out. This is a good location to hunt for trophy Moose as it has no local hunting pressure. This Mountain Goat hunt is offered through Big Boar Outfitters as we feel Abe Dougan, being younger and stronger than us, is able to provide a top quality hunting experience. He has guided many Goat and Sheep hunts and, as witnessed by us, is a top notch guide.

WOLVES
In this deep wilderness area the wolf population continues to grow. Although very crafty and evasive, we do get an opportunity to bag a good trophy on occasion while hunting for other game. Wolf can be added to any hunt at no extra cost other than tag fees.

LYNX AND COUGAR
As we do not have any cats on our area, we have made arrangements with an outfitter South of Quesnel to hunt this species in his area. Cougar and Lynx are plentiful but Bobcats are limited so we do not offer them at this time. This hunt is conducted from a spike camp which, at this time, consists of a 32 foot travel trailer. We hunt with hounds, both redbones and plots, and have been very successful with treeing cats. This last season we had two hunters on two separate occasions and treed 3 cougar for each. This allowed the hunter to be somewhat selective in harvesting his trophy. Hunting Lynx can be a very challenging yet rewarding experience. It requires the skill of persistent, enthusiastic dogs to track and tree them, as they leave little scent and are very cunning, climbing over and under downfalls and walking logs in an attempt to fool the dogs. Cougar, on the other hand, tree easily with dogs. The challenge is to find a good track. Their tracks hold lots of scent so dogs can track them many hours after their passing. However, on bare ground with little more than small patches of ice or frozen snow (a condition we were faced with this on these two hunts), this still requires dogs with a good nose and lots of tracking sense.
